Fun Dance Floor Games for a Reception

Aside from the father-daughter dance and bouquet toss, you can prepare a variety of entertaining games for your reception to do on the dance floor. Participating in games on the dance floor will get your guests up and involved in the reception. Encourage guests to play along by awarding small prizes, like table centerpieces and party favors to game winners.
  1. Dance Contests

    • One of the best ways to get your guests on the dance floor is by playing a variety of common songs most people know, such as ̶0;YMCA,̶1; ̶0;Macarena̶1; and the ̶0;Chicken Dance.̶1; Have a dance contest and have guests not participating be the judges by round of applause. Award prizes for the best dance moves, funniest dance moves and most likely to be sore the next day. Other ideas include having a ̶0;twist̶1; contest to the song ̶0;The Twist̶1; by Chubby Checker.

    Trivia Games

    • Place star stickers on the bottom of 10 dinner plates. After each guest has a plate, ask the 10 players who have stickers on the bottom of their plates to come to the dance floor. Host a trivia game about music, sports or everyday questions. The player who answers the most questions correctly wins the game. Alternatively, ask questions about the bride and groom. The first player to answer five questions correctly wins the game and a prize to take home.

    Charades

    • Ask for 12 volunteers and divide them into two teams. Write down several movie titles that relate to weddings like ̶0;Father of the Bride,̶1; ̶0;My Big Fat Greek Wedding̶1; and ̶0;My Best Friend̵7;s Wedding̶1; on small slips of paper. One player from each team must draw a movie and try to act out the movie title to her team. If the team members guess correctly in one minute, they earn a point. The team with the most points wins the game. Another idea is to do wedding-themed songs, such as ̶0;Love Me Tender̶1; and ̶0;Nothing Compares to You̶1; or wedding-related items like ̶0;wedding cake̶1; and ̶0;flowers.̶1;

    Party Games

    • Other party games to play on the dance floor include limbo, musical chairs and twister. Guests can hold a bamboo stick up to play limbo or place chairs on the floor to play musical chair. The last players standing win the game and a prize. Cut large colored dots out of construction paper or colored poster board to make a large twister board on the dance floor. Any guest who falls trying to do the twister moves is out of the game. The last player remaining wins the game.
