How to Make a Game for Scouts

Once a Cub Scout finishes the first grade, he can start working towards his Wolf rank. Scouts gain confidence and learn leadership skills through this rank, which they can accomplish through making games. According to the Boy Scouts of America, games should utilize supplies that the boys make mostly by themselves. The games should work on coordination skills and be simple enough to pack on trips and meetings. One example of a game uses balloons.

Instructions

    • 1

Mark a starting point with tape for a balloon race. Create a finishing line approximately 90 feet away from the starting line. The race can be a straight course or through obstacles, depending on the space available.

    • 2

Instruct each Scout to blow up six balloons. Be sure each balloon has at least a 12-inch diameter. A Scout leader can use string to measure each balloon if necessary.

    • 3

Wrap tape around each Scout who is racing with the sticky side facing outwards. Press the six balloons in whatever formation the Scout created with the tape. The way the tape and balloons are placed on the body may give certain advantages in the game.

    • 4

Line up the Scouts and have a volunteer shout "Go" to start the game. Each Scout should run through the course with all the balloons on his body.

    • 5

Give out 10 points to the Scout who comes in first place. Give seven points to the second place finisher and three points to the third place contestant. Give each scout three points per balloon that is still on his body. Play the game several times and add up the points for an overall winner.
