How to Make Your Own Putt Putt

Putt-putt golf is an enjoyable game often provided by area gaming locations. The slow pace and sometimes challenging holes make it an ideal friendly competitive game for even non-athletic types. Bring the fun home with your very own putting course. You can build a course to play with other family members and friends, or you can put in just a simple strip and hole to practice your own putting for future games.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide where your putt-putt course will be located. You may decide to put it right in your backyard. Some people keep it inside, utilizing a large family room or basement. The location and size of the putt-putt course depends on how difficult you want the course to be, and on how many holes you want. Some people just want one hole to practice putting, while other people may want a few different courses.

    • 2

Build a platform if the putt-putt course will be inside. Size will depend on how large of a space you are working with. You may want to build a platform for an outdoor course if you don't want to dig up holes in the ground.

    • 3

Plan where you want the holes to be, and cut accordingly. Keep in mind whether you are right- or left-handed, and your typical putting stance. You want to make sure you have enough room to stand and putt comfortably. If your putt-putt course is outside and you do not plan on building a platform, dig the holes and place the cups inside.

    • 4

Glue down the green putting carpet. Press it flat using heavy items, such as large books. Allow the carpet to sit for a few days so the air bubbles flatten out. Mark where the holes are. You will most likely not use carpet outside if you haven't built a platform. For a small platform, a staple gun may be enough to pin the carpet down.

    • 5

Trim the leftover carpet and cut out the holes using a carpet knife, once the carpet is situated.

    • 6

Put in bumpers, using either leftover plywood or PVC pipes. Place them around the edges of the course, or the platform. This will prevent any errant golf balls from flying over the edge.
