Cute Snowman Activities for Pre-schoolers

Help your preschoolers capture the essence of winter with entertaining snowman activities. From crafts to games, incorporate the "jolly, happy soul" into the classroom. Activities allow preschoolers a chance to develop their imagination, creativity and fine motor skills. You need just a few supplies from a craft store and some snowman activity ideas to get started.
  1. Easy Crafts

    • Help the preschoolers make snowman puppets. Draw a snowman shape on white poster board and cut it out. Give each child a snowman and a wood craft stick. Have her decorate the snowman using crayons, markers, pieces of felt and buttons. After the children decorate the snowmen, have them glue the snowmen to a wood craft stick to make a puppet. Another idea is to give the children three white paper plates to tape together to make a snowman. They can use craft supplies to decorate the snowmen.

    Snowball Games

    • Use white polystyrene foam balls to create snowball games for preschoolers. Give each preschooler a plastic spoon and a foam ball. The children must race from a starting line to a finish line carrying the "snowball." The first child to make it across the finish line with the snowball on the spoon wins the race.

    Group Crafts

    • Make a large snowman for the classroom using a small, medium and large cardboard box. Help the children tape the boxes together in order from small to large with large being on the bottom. Take large white quilt batting to cover the boxes. Have the children work together to glue black pompoms on the snowman for his buttons, mouth and eyes. Give one child a large piece of fabric to tie around his neck. Use construction paper to make the nose and top hat. Alternatively, divide the preschoolers into two groups and have each group make its own snowman.

    Snowman Games

    • Create a memory game by printing or drawing several different colors of snowmen on slips of paper. Hang the pages up on a board and have the preschoolers look at the pictures. Ask them to close their eyes and remove one picture. When they open their eyes, the first child to tell you what color snowman is missing wins the game. Another idea is to print two pictures of each snowman and allow the children to play a game of memory. Each child will flip over two pictures at a time. If the pictures match, they keep the pictures and draw again. If the pictures do not match, it skips to the next player's turn. The player with the most matches wins.
