Hold a "sudden death" playoff for the game. For example, if you are playing a card game and it comes down to two people in a dead heat, make a tie breaker a short version of the game where the first person to score one point becomes the victor.
Settle the tie with a good old fashioned "rock, paper, scissors" best two out of three. Just remember, rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper and paper beats rock.
Make the tie-players do a silly game of charades or picture guessing game. Use a timer for the rest of the participants. Have the tie-players each give clues to a randomly assigned topic and turn the timer on. The tie-player with the fastest guessed topic wins the prize.
Use the sudden death tie breaker for physical games like backyard soccer, field hockey or for indoor games such as Foosball, air hockey or even sports video games.
