Ideas for Messy Game Days

When planning messy game days at school or home, prepare a variety of games to get your guests dirty and involved in the party fun. Play messy games outside or in a well-protected indoor area like the kitchen. Entice your party guests to play along by awarding small prizes to all game winners. With the right supplies, a creative imagination and some game ideas, you have everything you and your guests need to get messy.
  1. Food Games

    • Place 10 gummy bears on a paper plate and cover the candy with whipped cream. Make one plate for each guest. Ask each player to sit in front of a plate with her hands behind her back. When you say "Go," players use their mouths only to find and eat the gummy bears. The first player to eat all 10 wins the game. For a funny messy game, press flour into a bowl and flip the bowl over on a table. Place a jelly bean on top of the flour. Give the children a plastic knife to cut the flour. Each guest must take a turn cutting away flour. The player who makes the jelly bean fall must pick it up using only her mouth and eat it.

    Egg Games

    • Play a variety of messy games using eggs. Have each player select a partner and give each team an egg. The team who tosses and catches the raw egg over the farthest distance without breaking or dropping it wins the game. Other egg games include egg roulette and a spoon race. Boil several eggs and place them in a bowl to cool. Mix a couple of raw eggs in the bowl. Guests take turn cracking eggs on their heads to see who will get the raw eggs. For a spoon race, give each player a plastic spoon and a raw egg. Players must race from a starting line to a finish line without dropping or breaking the egg. To make the race messy, any player who drops his egg, must get a new one and crack it over his head.

    Water Games

    • For a messy water balloon game, fill several balloons with water and place them in a bucket. Allow the guests to have a water balloon fight. Fill more balloons with flour to give the guests. The flour will stick to the wet guests, making a huge mess. Create a color war by filling balloons with water and food coloring. Have each guest put on a white shirt. The children then have a water balloon fight. Most shirts will look tie-dyed at the end of the game.

    Obstacle Courses

    • Make various messy obstacle courses for the children to run. Fill large plastic swimming pools with messy ingredients like cereal, milk, cooked noodles, shaving cream, gelatin, pudding and tomato juice. Guests must dip into each pool when running the course. Other course ideas include filling balloons with shaving cream for the guests to sit on, buckets of water with ice for children to step in and a long slide covered with pudding to slide down.
