How to Make a Snowball Game

If you're lucky enough to live in a place where snow falls abundantly, you and your friends can make snowball games to play in the great outdoors. Rather than the traditional, overdone snowball fight, arrange snow games that stimulate both the mind and the body.

Instructions

  1. Capture the Snowball

    • 1

Build two gigantic snowballs. Involve every player in this step. Pack the snowballs tightly, making them about the size of a basketball. These snowballs should be packed so tightly that you can pick it up and carry it in both arms without them falling apart easily.

    • 2

Split the open space you have available into two even sides. Split players up into two even teams, one team on each side. Have each team hide their snowball somewhere on their side of the field while the other team's backs are turned.

    • 3

Tuck a handkerchief, ribbon or other dangling material from each player's waist. Place the material on the same spot for each player, such as the back left pocket.

    • 4

Have players attempt to run to the other team's side and find and steal the snowball, similar to capture the flag. If a player runs to the other team's side and an opponent yanks his handkerchief out of his pocket, he has to go to jail. His teammates can tag him out of jail if they make it to the jail without getting tagged by an opponent.

    • 5

Play until one team finds the other team's snowball and carries it successfully back over to their side of the field. If the snowball crumbles, rebuild it and start again. The snowball has to make it to the other side in one piece.

    Catch the Snowball

    • 6

Split players into pairs. Have each pair pack a snowball as tightly as possible.

    • 7

Start each pair 1 foot apart. Have one player throw the snowball to the other player. The goal is to catch it without the snowball breaking. If the snowball breaks, the pair is out of the game.

    • 8

Have each pair take one step apart each time they catch the snowball. The distance between the pairs keeps growing. The pair to make the most catches without the snowball breaking wins.

    Snowball Figures

    • 9

Arrange players into even teams, or let each player represent himself. Have each team or player pack 20 snowballs of any size before the game begins.

    • 10

Have each player design a figurine or other art piece with their snowballs. This figurine can be a person, object or picture, but it must be built with just the 20 snowballs the player packed before the game.

    • 11

Have a panel of judges view each creation and vote. The winner is the artist with the highest votes.

    Snowball Wars

    • 12

Divide the available play space into two halves. Split players into two even teams. Have each player pack 20 to 30 snowballs and lay them in a pile. This pile is each player's ammo supply and this is all they get to use as a weapon throughout the entire war.

    • 13

Have each team wear distinctly different colored shirts, handkerchiefs or other costume pieces that will differentiate them from their opponents on the field.

    • 14

Set up or designate natural barriers and road blocks on the playing field. Use trees, bushes, trash cans, cardboard boxes and similar objects. Hide from your enemies on the battlefield using these barriers.

    • 15

Start the war by creeping onto your opponent's side of the field. Attempt to hit as many of your opponents as possible without getting hit yourself.

    • 16

Play until one team has no players left. The team with the last players standing wins.
