How to Make a Hamster Maze Out of Paper

One of the joys of keeping hamsters as pets is watching them work their way through hamster mazes. If you wish to keep your hamster entertained but are low on hamster maze funds try making your own maze out of cardboard boxes and inserts. Such mazes are easy to construct and replace should they eventually become soiled from hamster waste. Remember when using your hamster maze to keep it out of reach of other pets who might hop in and make your hamster an afternoon snack.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the sides down on a large cardboard box to begin your maze. The sides should still be tall enough so the hamster cannot escape. Garment boxes are ideal for this reason.

    • 2

Place pieces of thick yet bendable cardboard on their sides in the box as desired. You can use the cardboard inserts that sometimes come in cardboard boxes or cardboard beer box inserts to create your maze. Cut holes in some of the pieces with scissors so the hamsters will be able to move through the maze easily. Fold and bend the pieces as desired to create a maze-like structure and use hot glue to keep the pieces in place. Allow the glue to dry for about five minutes.

Add other parts to the maze, such as a section or two that features toilet paper and paper towel tubes. Also try placing toilet paper tubes within the holes you have created in some of the maze pieces.
