How to Play With Marvel Trading Cards

Early Marvel Trading Cards were created as collectible items, offering comic book fans card-sized memorabilia of superheroes, famous battles and events from the Marvel Universe. The cards contained original illustrations on one side and biographic information on the reverse side, such as the abilities and origins of superheroes. In 2006, card game maker, Upper Deck, created a playable Marvel Trading Card game based on the Vs. System, which pits Marvel heroes and villains against one another based on abilities and power ratings.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the paper and pen to create a scoring list for Player 1 and Player 2. Create a column for each player that has a section for Resource Points, which players gain each time a hero or villain is placed on the field.

    • 2

Set up the playing field. Use a level surface that allows each player to place six rows of cards on the surface.

    • 3

Draw two cards from your deck to play in your hand and then pick a player to go first. Use a game of chance to determine who plays a card first, such as flipping a coin.

    • 4

Place one of your cards in one of the available six rows that comprise your playing field. Alternatively, you can place a card in your resource row to gain points as described on the card you play.

    • 5

Read the abilities, points and damage of each card you put on the playing field to your opponent. For example, if you place a hero card on the playing field along with a jet pack equipment card, this may grant you a long range attack to your opponent. Ensure that he understands your tactic.

    • 6

Add your resource points together based on the strength level of the card you play if you attack and win. Alternatively, subtract points from your total if you are attacked by your opponent and sustain damage.

    • 7

Continue the game as long as desired or determine a point total that qualifies as a win. For example, the first play to reach 100 points is the game winner.
