How to Plan a Bakery Contest

Holding your own baking contest is a creative way to entertain guests with food and it allows everyone to share his or her expertise with others in a fun way. To make your contest more interesting, center it around a particular theme and give the winners prizes that relate to that theme. Another thing you want to do is look for easy recipes for children and teens to fix so they can participate in the contest too.

  Decide on a theme for the baking contest. If you're going for a global theme for the competition, for example, plan for each guest to prepare an international dessert. Or, if you're holding a party for old classmates, have them prepare their own version of a sweet snack that was popular when you were in school.

  Purchase enough ingredients for everyone to bake with if a lot of guests are participating in the contest. If you have a Sam's Club or Costco membership card, visit one of the warehouse stores to buy the main baking items you'll need in bulk, then purchase minor items at your local market. You also can ask relatives and friends to pitch in with the cost of the ingredients.

  Decide on what prizes you'll give the winner. If you're holding a contest to see which guest makes the best chocolate dessert, offer the winner a box of chocolates and a gift subscription to "Chocolatier" magazine.
