Scan the pictures gradually from top to bottom. Look at the top half inch of the first picture and then the top half inch of the second picture. Continue this type of comparison until you have covered both pictures.
Repeat the process that you used in step one, but this time work from right to left or left to right.
Look for details that stand out in a picture. For instance, the writing on a person's clothing, fingernail polish color and sunglasses are types of details that are commonly changed in these games.
Focus on an element, such as color. Scan the pictures for differences in color. Then work on another element, such as size and proportion.
Turn the pictures 90 degrees, 180 degrees and 270 degrees if possible. Look for things that are different from each of these perspectives. You might see something that you did not notice when the pictures were right-side up.
