How to Make Your Own Virtual Pokemon

Since its introduction in 1996, the Pokemon franchise has rolled out a plethora of movies, television series and video games. Over the years, countless fans have created their own hybrids of species to share with others. Among hundreds of species are various elemental types, stat distributions, abilities, and movesets. All of these factors help to create complex and dynamic battles.

  1. Instructions

    • 1

Brainstorm the overall concept of the Pokemon. Create a general feel or idea that will be the focus of the rest of the process.

    • 2

Assign types. Decide if your Pokemon will be a mono-type (only one type, such as fire) or dual-type (two types, such as steel and dark).

    • 3

Distribute stats. Keep it reasonable, and try to focus on specific areas where you would like your Pokemon to excel.

    • 4

Determine the movepool. Write down all of the moves that the Pokemon learns as it levels up, as well as the TMs and HMs (moves that are taught, rather than innate) that it can learn. Include both physical and nonphysical attacks.

    • 5

Choose one or two possible abilities (for example, Clear Body or Leaf Guard). These should go hand-in-hand with the movepool, stats, or type.

    • 6

Create a name that relates to the Pokemon's concept.

    • 7

Draw the Pokemon using a basic digital drawing program such as Microsoft Paint. Begin with an outline, then add color. Draw in "sprite form," which is the image used in the game.

    • 8

Determine the evolutionary stages of your Pokemon, if any, and whether they evolve via leveling up, trade, or stone. For each stage, repeat steps one through seven.
