Floating Candle Games

Floating candles not only make for beautiful centerpieces on tables, in swimming pools and other outside decor, but can provide entertainment, too. Since you already have everyone gathered around, use that centerpiece to break the ice with family and friends. Here are some floating candle games that can be enjoyed by everyone at your next party.
  1. Floating Candle Football

    • Fill a large, long pail or other container with water. Put two floating candles on each end of the container and space in between them. These candles will act as the end zone. Place two floating candles in the middle of the surface and, using a toothpick or a long wooden skewer, try to get around your opponent and into the end zone to score a point. If you choose to light the floating candles, be sure to use metal skewers to prevent a fire.

    Floating Candle Race

    • Place two floating candles at one end of a long, water-filled container. Light the candles. Using straws, have each person blow a candle to the other side. Whoever gets to the other side first wins. If the candle light gets blown out, that person needs to place their floating candle at the start line to begin again. (Be sure to relight the candle.)

    "Flame Out Floating Candle" Game

    • Turn your pool into a game board with floating candles.

"Flame Out Floating Candle" is ideal to play in the pool, as someone is bound to get wet. Place two lit floating candles in the pool, about 5 to 6 feet away from the person. Fill two squirt bottles with water. Each person's goal is to try and extinguish the flame using their squirt bottle. The first person who gets the flame out first wins.

    "Bumper Floating Candles"

    • Many party stores carry an assortment of floating candles, which are specifically designed for pool use. Such designs include lily pad floating candles, tropical flower floating candles and seashell floating candles. Light and scatter candles of various designs in a swimming pool. Light two plain floating candles and place them at one end of the pool. Using a metal stick, each person needs to get their floating candle to the other side of the pool without bumping into the designed floating candles. If a bump occurs, that person needs to start again. Whoever gets their candle to the other side first wins.
