Dance Activities With Partners

Dance is an excellent source of exercise and helps people of all ages to gain better balance, strength and coordination. When hosting a social gathering or birthday party, get your guests boogieing and groovin' to the party music with entertaining dance activities. Have your guests grab a partner, get on the dance floor and show off their dance moves. Adjust the games according to the age of the participants.
  1. Games with Newspaper

    • Play a dancing partner game with a newspaper. Have everyone select a partner and give each pair a sheet of newspaper. Each team must lay the newspaper on the floor and stand on top of it. Play the music and tell the pairs to dance on the newspaper. If they step off, they are out of the game. In 30-second intervals, make the pair fold the piece of newspaper in half. The pair who stays on the newspaper the longest wins the game. Alternatively, you can play this game in teams of three or four using two sheets of newspaper to begin.

    Games with Fruit

    • Everyone must select a dance partner and give each pair an apple. Have the couples place the apple between their foreheads and dance. Any pair caught not dancing is out of the game. If they drop their apple, they are out of the game. Make the game more difficult by asking the pairs to hop or squat. Other variations include holding the apple between their stomachs, backs or shoulders. You can also use other types of fruits.

    Games with Groups

    • Have everyone dance individually and control the music. Stop the music and call out a number, such as three. Everyone has to get into groups of three and dance. If you call out four, everyone has to dance in groups of four. If you want to play this game by eliminating players, eliminate players who are not in a group after you call out a number. When you get down to three players, call out two and the two players who join together to dance win the game.

    Contests

    • Allow players to show off their dancing skills by holding a contest. Give each pair 20 minutes to create a dance routine to a favorite song. After 20 minutes, each pair must perform the dance for the group. Have two or three adults judge the dances and award prizes for the best, funniest and most creative dances. Alternatively, you can hold a dance-off by having two teams stand face-to- face. One team performs a dance move and the other team must try to mimic the move. If they succeed, they earn a point. If not, the other team earns a point. The team with the most points after five dance moves wins the game.
