Trivia Games
Every generation has its own iconic movies, music and TV shows. Play Teen Trivial Pursuit with friends or host a "Jeopardy!" or "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" marathon at your house. You can also haul out your parents' old trivia games, such as TriBond or classic Trivial Pursuit, and see how well you were paying attention in history class. Scene It? trivia game is an excellent way to show off your movie knowledge. If you don't have any board games, play "The Newlywed Game" at home. Instead of asking questions about spouses, pair off and answer questions about close friends.
Puzzle Games
Figuring out riddles and clues takes a grownup dose of brain power. Put your friends into two teams and have each team create a neighborhood or city-wide scavenger hunt for the other. Dust off "Clue" and play with a few friends. You could also play Mafia, a party game in which some players are killers and some are police -- the trick is figuring out who is who. Or, play a murder mystery game and see who can guess the culprit.
Timed Games
Play Scattergories with friends. Choose 10 categories, such as Famous Actresses or Hot Foods. Have a nonplayer choose a letter. You (or your team) have two minutes to list an item for each category beginning with the chosen letter. If you lack game supplies, play Charades with recent movies. If you have a big indoor space, such as a large house, play Sardines. Stand outside the house. One person goes inside and hides. The next person waits 50 seconds, then goes to look for the hidden person. If the seeker finds him, he joins him. After 50 seconds, the next person goes. Everyone takes a turn looking for the hidden people until players are packed like sardines in a can.
Active Games
If board games aren't your style, play an active game. In hot weather, change into swimsuits and have a water balloon fight in the back yard. Head to an open field, pair off, tie your leg to your partner's and play three-legged soccer. Set up a net and play volleyball. Divide a large open space in half, split into teams and play Capture the Flag. Buy a plastic bat and ball and play wiffle ball or head to a putt-putt course and play 18 holes.
