Take it Seriously
Many people consider the Ouija board a serious tool for communicating with spirits. They would recommend that if you are going to use it you should take it seriously and not treat it as a joke. This also means that if at any time you or your companions begin to feel uncomfortable, you should end the session immediately. It is best to use the Ouija board with at least one other person.
Set an Intention
To start a session with your Ouija board, one person will be designated as the speaker. This person should state a positive intention out loud as soon as the group is ready to start. This player, or psychic medium of the group, should ask that only positive energies or spirits are allowed. This person should then ask that all bad energies or malevolent spirits stay away as they are not welcome. Everyone should be concentrating and focused on this intention. Be sure the group is taking it as seriously as you.
Contain Communication
During the sitting it is crucial that you do not ask for any physical signs of the spirit's presence. You must be patient and if the board is not working to your liking, end the session and try again another time. Do not ask for or invite spirits to make their physical presence known, since you do not know what may happen. It is best to keep all communication contained within the board.
End the Session
According to Ouija board believers, one of the biggest mistakes participants make is to abruptly stop use, put the board away and think a session is over. Believers argue that just as it is important to begin with an intention, it is critical to end the session with one as well. One suggestion is to slide the pointer to the word goodbye, state you are ending the session, thank all the spirits for their participation and tell them they are now released. If you do not do this, it is believed the spirit presence may remain, begin to haunt or bother you and you may be unable to get rid of it.
