Black Hole Games

Black holes are places in space where the gravity is so strong no objects are able to escape. Giant black holes are located in the center of galaxies. Online black hole games from NASA can teach children about black holes and the dangers they pose. These dark depths also provide challenging obstacles to avoid in online games designed to be played just for fun.
  1. NASA Games

    • NASA offers an online game to teach children about black holes called "Black Hole Rescue." In "Black Hole Rescue" children must rescue falling letters to make words before they fall into the black hole. The words children must make relate to black holes and space. Children can also print two board games offered by NASA that relate to black holes. "Black Hole Explorer" has children construct a spaceship using game cards and then guide that spaceship into a black hole using probe and event cards. In "Fall into a Black Hole," players roll to build up anti-gravity tokens to escape a black hole.

    Arcade Games

    • Nickelodeon offers the game "Black Hole" which is a strategy-based game that requires players to travel through a black hole by jumping from platform to platform and avoiding flying objects such as asteroids. Kids Games Power offers a simplistic game called "Black Hole." In this game, children use the arrow keys to direct their spaceship away from two black holes that are moving around the screen. Once the spaceship is hit by a black hole, the game ends.

    Physics Games

    • Shocked Science, a website created by members of the Physics department at Kennesaw State University, offers the "Black Hole Game" for physics students. Students must use their knowledge of velocity and gravitational force to move buckets of ore from the space station to nearby docks. Players lose points for dropping buckets of ore into black holes and can lose 1,000 points if the space station is damaged by a black hole.

    Journey to a Black Hole

    • Based on images taken by the Hubble Telescope, "Journey to a Black Hole" provides students with information about how black holes are discovered. Players use three different types of telescopes to scan the sky for black holes. After locating black holes, players choose to travel to one of two black holes, Cygnus X-1 or Andromeda, by choosing the speed at which to travel and observing planets and moons as they travel. Both portions of the game provide players with a lot of information about black holes and guide them in making correct decisions.
