Your Mission Should You Decide To Accept It
Decide on your destination. The best place for a spy mission is the park. If the weather does not permit you can also create a spy mission indoors.
If your children can read, write out a simple mission for them to complete. For younger kids it's a lot easier to have them find a treasure. Be sure to include information about who or what they are looking for, why they are looking for this person or object, when and where the person or object was last seen, etc. Keep it simple and have fun.
Put your spy gear inside your backpack. You can use objects you have around the house or purchase a toy spy kit. You can also allow your children (depending on their age) to find their own spy gear. Using their imaginations a spoon is a secret weapon, a magnifying glass is X-ray glasses, etc. If your kids have a Nintendo DS, they can use the pictochat feature to talk to each other without having to speak.
Go to your destination. If you're going to the park establish boundaries for your kids so they don't wander off. Be sure to remind them to check in with you every 5 minutes, etc.
Hand the kids their mission (this is the paper you wrote out). Before your set them free be sure to cover the basics: be quiet, stay low, whisper, use hand signals, be sure you don't get caught, etc. Also remind them to write what they see in their notebook. This will spark their imaginations.
Have fun spying!
