Cowboy Hat Games
Have the children sit in a circle and hand one child a cowboy hat. Play country music and have the children pass the hat around the circle. For added fun, have the children put the hat on and take it off before passing it. When the music stops, the child with the hat is out of the game. Eliminate one player each round and the last player in the game wins. For another cowboy hat game, stake wooden dowels into the ground and mark a standing line 6 feet away. Players must try to toss the cowboy hat onto the wooden dowel. Any player who lands the hat on the wooden dowel earns a prize.
Relay Races
Divide the preschoolers into two teams. Mark a starting line and run-to line 20 feet apart. Have the teams line up at the starting line and give the first player in each team line a stick horse. When you say "Race," the children must ride the stick horse to the run-to line and back. They must pass it to the next players in line who must do the same thing. The first team to finish wins the race. For another relay race, have the children use burlap sacks to compete in a sack race. Each player must hop to the run-to line and back. The first team finished wins the race.
Lasso Games
Give the children a lasso and place a large plush horse or cow in an open area. Have the preschoolers practice trying to lasso the animal. Award a prize to any preschooler who lassos the animal. For another lasso game, place several lassos on the ground. Write a different number on several sheets of paper and place the number in the lassos. Write down the small number on pieces of paper and put them in a cup. Play music and have the preschoolers walk around the lassos. When the music stops, they must stand in a lasso. Draw a number and the child standing on that number wins the game.
Hunt Games
Spray paint several rocks gold. After they dry, hide the "gold nuggets" around the play area. Give each preschooler a small paper sack to hunt the gold. The player who finds the most gold nuggets wins the game. For another hunt game, hide plastic horseshoes and have the children find the horseshoes.
