Candyland Activities

When planning a Candyland birthday party or gathering for children who love the candy-themed board game, you can include a few "sweet" activities to keep the guests entertained. Activities give the guests a chance to make and take home their own creations as mementos of the event. If you are planning a few games as activities, be sure to award the game winners with Candyland-themed prizes such as stickers or small bags of candy.
  1. Edible Activities

    • Ask the children to sit around the table and give each child a gingerbread cookie. Give the children frosting, icing pens, sparkling sugar crystals, raisins, candy, sprinkles and edible glitter to decorate their cookies. When the children finish their cookies, place the cookies in small plastic zipper bags to take home or allow them to enjoy the cookies after they decorate them. For another edible activity, give the children frosting, graham crackers, candy pieces, candy canes and licorice ropes to create a "King Kandy Castle."

    Gumdrop Games

    • Give each child a bowl of gumdrops and have him sit around a table or find an open spot on a hard surface. When you say, "Build," the children must use the gumdrops to build the tallest tower they can. After five minutes, the child with the tallest standing gumdrop tower wins the game and a prize. If a tower falls, tell the children they can continue building until time is up. Children can also play a game of checkers or tic-tac-toe using gumdrops as game pieces.

    Face Painting

    • Have an adult or older teen paint Candyland-themed items on the party guests' faces using nontoxic paint. Some examples include a gingerbread man, gumdrop, candy cane, snowflake, bar of chocolate, licorice ropes and peppermints. For more challenging ideas, paint small pictures of Candyland characters, such as King Kandy, Gloppy, Princess Lolly, Lord Licorice and Mr. Mint. If you do not have time or supplies to do the face painting, help the children put on candy-themed temporary tattoos.

    Lollipop Games

    • Tell the children to sit in a circle. Hand one child a large lollipop. Place several small lollipops in a bowl and place them in the middle of the circle. Play music and tell the children to pass the lollipop around the circle. When they music stops, the player holding the lollipop is out of the game. She can select a small lollipop from the bowl on her way out of the game. Keep playing, eliminating one player each round. The last player remaining in the game wins the large lollipop.

For another lollipop game, hide several lollipops all over the play area. Give each child a small bag and tell her to hunt for the lollipops. All children can keep the lollipops they find. The player who finds the most wins an additional prize.
