How to Install Magic: the Gathering on Windows XP

"Magic: the Gathering Online" (MTGO) is one of the most popular online hobbyist gaming communities. Based on the popular "Magic: the Gathering" collectible card game, Magic Online provides a social and competitive outlet for gamers from around the world. In the game, users collect digital cards in order to build "decks" to compete in online tournaments and events. MTGO provides a wide variety of tournaments in many formats and categories for players to participate in. In order to provide seamless gameplay, the program enforces the complex rules of the "Magic: the Gathering" card game for players.

      Open a Web browser and go to the "Magic: the Gathering" website (see Resources).

      Select "Digital games" from the toolbar, and then select "Magic Online" on the screen that follows.

      Click "Download client," which will begin a download of the "Magic: the Gathering Online" program installer. This download should take roughly five minutes.

      Find the "Magic: the Gathering" installer program, which is located in the "Downloads" folder on the computer's hard drive. If the Web browser is set to download to another location, such as the desktop, check there for the file as well.

      Open the "Magic: the Gathering" installer program, which will begin the process of downloading the program on to the hard drive. This download may take up to half an hour, as it is a large file. The installer program will provide a visual estimate of the amount of time the download will take, as well as its progress.

      Click on the "Magic Online" shortcut that the installer has placed on the desktop to start gaming after the program has been installed.
