Rainy Day Activities for Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts is an organization dedicated to teaching young girls about having strong values, high morals, a sense of self-worth and leadership abilities. Most Girl Scout activities take place outdoors. However, when it's raining outdoors, the girls can still play and explore indoors. Keep the girls involved in the activities by awarding small prizes to game winners and participants. With a few supplies and indoor game ideas, you have everything you need to get started.
  1. Icebreakers

    • Begin with a couple of indoor icebreaker activities. Tell the girls when you say, "Go," they must all line up in chronological order by birthdays. To make the game harder, tell the girls they cannot talk to each other while getting in order. For example, the girls can use their fingers to tell each other the month and day of their birthday. If you want to make this into a game, divide the girls into two teams and the team that can do this activity the quickest wins the game.

    Hunt Games

    • Hide a small item like a penny or small rubber ball somewhere in the play area. Tell the girls to find the item. However, when a girl finds the item, she cannot point at it or pick it up. Instead, she must walk away from the item, sit down and say, "Girl Scouts Rule." Keep playing until everyone sees the items. The first girl who found the item can hide it for the next round. For another hunt game, hide plastic gold coins all over the play area. The girl who finds the most gold coins wins the game.

    Balloon Games

    • Play a game of balloon baseball by dividing the players into two teams. Place four sheets of paper on the ground in a diamond shape to create the bases. The "batter" tosses the balloon in the air and hits it with her fist in the air. She must run all the bases before the balloon hits the ground to score a point. The other team must try to blow the balloon to the ground. If the balloon hits the ground before the player makes the bases, she is out. After three outs, switch teams. Play five innings and the team with the most points wins the game. For an easy balloon game, divide the players into two teams and give each team five balloons to hit in the air. After 30 seconds, add another balloon to each team. The team that can keep all its balloons off the ground the longest wins the game.

    Bingo Games

    • Give each girl a blank bingo grid. The girls must cut pictures of celebrities out of magazines and glue them in the bingo squares. Write down the names of all the celebrities they use on the cards and place the names in a bowl. Call out the celebrity names and have the girls mark their bingo cards. The first to bingo wins the game and a prize. For a variation, use random items from magazines. For a name bingo, have the girls fill the cards out with names of other Girl Scouts.
