Things You'll Need
Instructions
Gather the items you will use to create the course, including foam noodles, plastic cones, jump ropes, an old sheet, a sprinkler, hula hoops and balloons. Use trees and playground equipment to supplement the course. Blow up the balloons with a pump so they will be ready to use.
Divide the obstacle course into stations where children will focus on different fun skills and activities, such as jumping, crawling and maneuvering through a slalom course.
Instruct the children to line-up at the starting line. Decide whether each child will play individually or if they will be playing in teams like a relay. Set your stopwatch to begin as soon you yell the command to "Go!"
Create a track course with the children sprinting from the starting line and jumping over foam noodle hurdles, positioned over two large buckets. Time the children as they jump from one hula hoop to the next without stepping on the sides of it.
Form a slalom course out of plastic orange cones or foam noodles weighted down in buckets with dirt. Place the obstacles in a zigzag pattern on the lawn and have the children maneuver a red wagon full of water balloons through the course without spilling any of them.
Slow the course down by having the children crawl through a large box after removing the top and bottom of the box for more room or have them "army crawl" across an old sheet.
Time the children as they run to the playground equipment and race down the slide before heading to the final station, the sprinkler. Count how many times each child can jump rope with a steady stream of the sprinkler hitting him and then have each child throw water balloons into a bucket in the distance and keep score. Finish the game with a friendly game of water tug-of-war between all the kids, with the losing team ending up drenched in the sprinkler.
