Ideas for Painting Cornhole Games

The game of cornhole or corn toss is also called bean bag, bean toss, soft horseshoes and Indiana horseshoes. The American Cornhole Association, established by a small group of corn-holing enthusiasts in Ohio, volunteers its time, promoting the game across the United States and establishing standardized rules of play. Cornhole is played by tossing beanbags (actually filled with dried corn) into target holes in wooden boxes set about 30 feet apart. Painting the wooden boxes used in corn holes a way to personalize the games.
  1. Sports-themed Cornhole Ideas

    • Paint a cornhole box in school or team colors. Using a team mascot shows a greater dedication to your team. If you like golf, paint the box like a putting green. Make tossing bags that look like white golf balls. Basketball fans can paint a hoop and net and toss mini beanbag basketballs. Paint the wooden boxes as soccer or hockey goals, or football goalposts and toss matching beanbag balls or pucks into the holes.

    Silly Cornhole Ideas

    • Paint a giant mouth on the board and make the tossing beanbags as play food items. A giant eyeball means you can toss beanbag "tears" into the target hole. Adults and kids alike would hoot at tossing brown beanbags of "poo" into a painted toilet bowl wooden box.

    Scenic Cornhole Ideas

    • Paint fun designs such as hearts, flowers, swirls in favorite colors,or some funky plaid patterns on the cornhole box. Toss matching beanbags. An ocean scene and handmade fish and seashell beanbags would look right at home at the beach.

    Special Cornhole Ideas

    • For a Father's Day gift, you could paint barbecue grills on the wooden boxes and toss beanbag hamburgers. Another idea for Dad would be to paint the wooden boxes as toolboxes and toss in beanbags shaped like tools. For a fun Mother's Day gift, paint the wooden cornhole boxes as a kitchen sink and toss bean bag plates into the target hole.

For young children, make it for easier "target practice" similar to bowling lane rails by installing tapered wooden sides to the boxes to keep the bean bags in play.
