How to Slide Down a Water Slide

Riding down a water slide is a fun activity for warm weather days. Whether you are riding a short slide into a pool or lake, or a large "screamer" style slide at a water park, it is important to use proper technique when sliding to ensure you are moving down the slide as safely as possible. Improper sliding technique can result in serious injuries, ranging from dislocation or broken bones in your limbs to head trauma.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to ensure that the area beneath the slide is clear, as landing on another swimmer can cause injury to yourself as well as the swimmer. If at a water park, listen for the lifeguard running the slide to give you clearance.

    • 2

Sit down at the top of the slide with your feet in front of you.

    • 3

Cross your legs at the ankle, placing whichever leg you feel more comfortable with on top.

    • 4

Push yourself forward until you reach the point where you begin to slide on your own from gravity.

    • 5

Lay down on your back as you slide.

    • 6

Lift your head up off the slide slightly, so that it is not bouncing off the hard slide as your go down.

    • 7

Cross your arms over your chest.
