Girl Scout Indoor Overnight Activities

Girl Scout camps can provide children with unforgettable experiences. When planning an overnight camp for Girl Scouts, you can create a few indoor activities to keep the girls entertained. Awarding small prizes to game winners will encourage the girls to do their best. With a few inexpensive supplies, some activity ideas and girls ready to have fun, you have all you need to get the night started.
  1. Paper Activities

    • Make Bingo cards using Girl Scout words like badge, brownie, gold, lifetime, silver and trefoil. Write the same words on small slips of paper and place them in a bowl. Give each girl a bingo card and bingo markers. Call out the words and have the girls mark their cards. The first girl to get Bingo and yell "Girl Scouts," wins the game.

For another paper activity, use the same words for a scramble game. Scramble the words and pass out a sheet to each girl face down. When you say "Go," they must flip their paper over and begin unscrambling the words. The first girl to unscramble all the words wins the game.

    Memory Games

    • Have the girls sit in a circle and select one girl to go first. She must say "I am going to the market to get a _____." If she says "lemon," the next girl must say "I am going to the store to get a lemon and a ______." Each girl must repeat the food items of the girls that went before her and add her own. Any girl who messes up the order or cannot remember an item is out of the game. The last girl standing wins the game.

For another memory game, play a game of Girl Scout cookie match. Print two pictures of each type of Girl Scout cookies. Place the pictures face down and have the girls try to find pairs. Any girl who finds a pair can go again. The girl with the most matches at the end of the game wins the game.

    Imagination Games

    • Divide the girls into teams of three or four. Give each team a bag with four kitchen items, such as a large spoon, a whisk or a plastic bowl. The girls have 20 minutes to come up with a skit using only the items in the bag. After 20 minutes, have each group perform its skit. Award prizes for the best and most creative skits.

For a variation, have the girls make a commercial using the items instead of a skit.

    Craft Activities

    • Give the girls backpacks, T-shirts or pillowcase to color at the overnight stay. Girl Scout items are available online and at some craft stores. If you cannot find these items, have the girls write things like "Girl Scout Daisy or Brownie", "Courage-Confidence-Character" and "Camp Girl Scouts" on the items before coloring them. Give the girls fabric markers to color with and have the girls sign each other's items if they prefer.
