Games for Building Roller Coasters

Many individuals have entertained the dream of building and riding our own roller coasters. Though few will ever be afforded the opportunity, some games exist which can at least offer a taste of that thrill. Most of these games are available cheaply (or even free) for download through various video game retail websites.
  1. Rollercoaster Tycoon

    • "Rollercoaster Tycoon" was first released in 1999, and covers not just roller coasters, but the management of an entire theme park. Fourteen different roller coaster styles allow players to construct in almost unlimited configurations, and the game's engines promote accurate motion dynamics and physics, even measuring excitement and nausea ratings of rides. Recommended requirements include at least a 200 MHz processor and 32 MB of RAM.

    No Limits Roller Coaster

    • "No Limits Roller Coaster" allows individuals to ride existing coasters or build their own, boasting 27 differed track styles that include inverted, wooden and shuttle coasters. Different environments can be selected through which to ride, and simulations can be saved as desktop screen savers. This game is compatible with Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP, requires a Pentium PIII or better processor, as well as 128 MB of RAM and a 3D accelerated video card.

    Ultimate Ride

    • Produced by Disney's Imaginieering and Buena Vista, this game allows players to design, customize and test roller coasters in the first person in photo-realistic, real-time 3D. Finished roller coasters may also be posted online to be downloaded by other users. The game is compatible with Windows 95/98 PC operating systems and requires a Pentium II 333 MHz or faster processor, 32 MB of RAM, a 16-bit sound card, 8 MB video card, and 64 MB of free disk space.

    Rollercoaster Creator

    • A simple Flash game available from gamesgames.com, fatratgames.com and freewebarcade.com, "Rollercoaster Creator" is played in web browsers accesed either by computer or smartphone. The game only requires an updated edition of Java and Flash Media Player. The object of "Rollercoaster Creator" is to collect coins, which are scattered around an area at various heights; players collect the coins by designing roller coaster tracks that intersect the coins. Each new level features an increase in difficulty, while certain levels unlock new types of roller coaster equipment.
