Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is a game that is fun and easy to play for all ages, from toddlers up to older adults. When planning a scavenger hunt, design the game so that it suits the interests of the people that are playing. For instance, if you are hosting a children's party, arrange a scavenger hunt that involves groups of children searching for hidden plush toys, and if you're having a scavenger hunt at a baby shower, hide items that pertain to babies, such as bottles, pacifiers and receiving blankets. For younger players, simply instruct them to search for and collect the objects that have been hidden around a small, controlled area. For a group of older players, consider creating a list of riddle clues that offer insight into where items have been hidden or need to be found from a much broader area; a neighbourhood or even city. Award prizes to the group of players that found the most items or let players keep the items they have found.
Relay Race
Another game that is easy to play and is sure to provide entertainment is a relay race. Relay races can be modified to suit the interests of the group they are being used for or to fit in with a theme. For instance, during an Easter celebration have an egg relay race, in which players have to walk as fast as they can with a hardboiled egg balanced in a spoon and pass it from one player's spoon to another. During a summertime party, you could have players soak sponges with water at the starting point of the race, run to an empty bucket, squeeze out the sponge and then pass the sponge to the next player, continuing the bucket filling process.
Hide-and-Seek
Hide-and-Seek is an age-old game that is simple to play, offers entertainment for all ages and requires no props. You can play the traditional version of the game, which involves a person who is "It" covering her eyes and counting to a specific number while other players hide; "It" then searches for the hidden players and upon catching one, that person is "It" for the next round of the game. Another option is to play one of the many variations of hide-and-seek. In Chain Hide-and-Seek, when "It" finds a player, the two link arms and search for the next player. All players who are found link arms and continue searching for the rest of the players and the last player found is "It" for the next game. In Sardines, which is basically reverse Hide-and-Seek, "It" hides and the other players search for him. Upon finding "It," players hide with him until there is only one person left searching for the group, who is "It" for the next round.
Pin the Tail on the...
Pin the Tail on the Donkey is traditional game that is easy to play by all age groups and can be altered to fit interests or a theme. If you're hosting a Halloween party for children, perhaps consider having them play a variation of the game in which they have to pin the hat on a witch or pin the smile on a jack-o'-lantern. At on over-the-hill party, players could pin the hair on the old person or pin the person in the wheelchair.
