Christian Youth Halloween Game Ideas

Many Christian youth groups celebrate Halloween by hosting a festival or gathering at the church for everyone. When planning a Halloween gathering for a church youth group, be sure to include a few non-scary games for everyone to play. Games prevent boredom and give the youth a way to earn candy without going door-to-door. With a few basic supplies and your imagination, you have everything you need to create a few Halloween games.
  1. Circle Games

    • Cut the stem off a pumpkin and clean the inside out. Cook spaghetti noodles and give them time to cool. Place the cooked noodles in the pumpkin along with several pieces of wrapped candy. Have the players sit in a circle and hand the pumpkin to one player. Play music and tell everyone to pass the pumpkin. When the music stops, the player holding the pumpkin can take a piece of candy. Keep playing until everyone has at least one piece of candy. For another idea, just pass the pumpkin around the circle and allow each player to take two pieces of candy.

    Trivia Games

    • Create a trivia games with questions about Halloween. Ask questions like "Halloween is celebrated on the eve of which Christian holiday?" (All Saints' Day.) And "Pumpkins grow on a what?" (Vine.) Print a sheet for each player, and see who can finish the sheet in the fastest amount of time with all the correct answers. For another variation, divide the players into teams and ask the questions aloud. Award a team one point for each correct answer. The first team to score five points wins the game.

    Pumpkin Games

    • Have a pumpkin rolling contest to see who can roll a pumpkin the farthest. Mark a starting line and have five to six players stand on the line. Give each player a pumpkin and on "Go," they must roll the pumpkin as hard as they can. Award a prize to the player who rolls the pumpkin that travels the farthest from the line. For another pumpkin game, place 10 empty soda bottles 20 feet from the starting line. Give each player two chances to knock the bottles down using a pumpkin. Award a prize to each player who knocks all the bottles down.

    Gourd Games

    • Use gourds to play a tossing game. Have each player select a partner and have the partners stand five feet apart. When you say "Toss," one player in each team has to toss a gourd to his partner. If the partner catches it, that team is still in the game and each team member must take a giant step backward. If the partner drops it, that team is out of the game. The team that can toss the gourd the farthest and catch it wins the game. To make the game harder, rub some butter on the outside of the gourds.
