Social Thinking Team Challenges for Group Activities

Bring everyone together with entertaining social activities that will build team communication. When planning a social gathering or organized event, create a few games to keep everyone thinking and communicating. With some careful planning, a few supplies and game ideas, you have everything you need to start. Entice the players to try their best by awarding prizes to team winners.
  1. Group Juggle

    • Divide the players into two teams and give each team a soft ball. When you say "Go," the players must toss the play to one another in their group circle. Each time a player catches the ball, she must say her name. The object is to pass the ball to each player in the circle as fast as possible. The first team to do this wins the game. For another variation, play with one large group and have players try to beat their fastest time each time they play.

    Bigger Invention

    • Split the players into teams of four or five. Give each team a paper clip and other supplies, such as tape, more paper clips, paper and straws. Tell the teams they must create an invention that is bigger and better than the paper clip. The teams have 20 minutes to work together and create an invention. After 20 minutes, one player from each team must stand up and tell about the team's invention. Award prizes to the best, most creative and funniest inventions.

    Communication Charades

    • Have everyone sit in a circle and take one player out of the room. Tell that player a type of action to perform, such as milking a cow or trying to catch a chicken. The player must return and stand in the middle of the circle. Without using any words, he must act out the action. The player who guesses what he is doing wins a prize and goes next. Another idea is for the players to play this game in teams. If a team can guess what its teammate is doing in two minutes, it earns a point. The first team to five points wins the game.

    Board Race

    • Mark a starting line and a finish line 30 feet apart. Divide the players into two teams. Give each team two 2-by-4 wood boards. The boards must be long enough for the players to stand on. When you say "Race," the teams must use the boards to get to the finish line by standing on them. If a teammate falls off the board at any time, the entire team must start over at the starting line. The teams must work together to use the boards to move their team to the finish line. The first team across the finish line wins the game.
