Guessing
Create a Halloween guessing games by wrapping several boxes in orange and black construction paper. Cut a small hole in the top of each box. Cover the hole with a sheet of tissue paper and make the hole only large enough for players' hands. Place a Halloween item, such as a rubber rat, a plastic spider, a piece of candy corn, a miniature pumpkin and vampire teeth, in each one of the boxes. Players must stick their hand in each box to feel and guess the item. Players earn one point for each correct answer. The player with the most points wins the game.
Tossing
Draw a picture of a ghost or black cat on a large poster board. Tape the picture to the bottom of a cardboard box. Cut out the eyes and mouth, and lean the box against a wall. Mark a standing line 10 feet from the box and give each child three beanbags. Award a small prize or piece of candy to each child who tosses a bag through the hole. For another tossing game, use nine cardboard boxes to form a tic-tac-toe grid. The boxes should be the same size and have large enough openings for beanbags. Players must try to toss beanbags into the boxes to earn tic-tac-toe.
Gross
Play a gross guessing game by setting up boxes like in the guessing game. Instead of regular Halloween items, tell players the boxes consist of body parts and they must try to guess what part is in each box. For example, eyeballs (peeled grapes), heart (peeled whole tomato), almond slices (fingernails), wet yarn or fur (hair) and a dried apricot (ear). Players must reach in the boxes and feel each item. The player who guesses the most items correctly wins the game.
Fishing
Cover a large appliance box with Halloween wrapping paper and place the box in a doorway. Cut out the back of the box so an adult can sit in the bottom of the box. Make a small fishing pole by attaching yarn to the end of a wooden dowel. Tie a clothespin to the end of the yarn. Have each child toss the clothespin into the box to fish for Halloween prizes. The adult will clip a Halloween toy or piece of candy to the clothespin and tug on the line. The child will put the yarn out of the box to see what he has won.
