Bingo
Bingo is a common game played by older clients in adult day care settings. Bingo gives participants the ability to control the card they have and keep their mind off depressing events in their lives. Bingo brings people together and is a socialization activity which can lead to new friendships. This is a good exercise for elderly who are having trouble with eye sight and focusing on specific tasks. Bingo will require the use of precise eyesight and the ability to pay attention as numbers are called and chips are placed on specific locations.
Puzzles
Jigsaw puzzles are a good way for older people to keep their minds sharp. Puzzles in various sizes and piece-counts keep clients in adult homes occupied for hours. Puzzles can also bring people together, working to piece together parts of the puzzle that may have been giving them trouble. The feeling of achievement once the puzzle is complete is one that will make adult day care clients feel happy and content.
Cards
Some adult day care clients enjoy a game of cards, bringing together a group of people who all enjoy the same hobby. Card games such as hearts, cribbage, bridge, pinochle and canasta can be played with other clients at the adult day care. Socialization skills and mind strengthening skills are challenged when card games are involved, which will keep elderly clients busy and take their minds off any trouble or depression within their current situations.
Board Games
Board games are inexpensive ways for adult day care centers to entertain clients by keeping their minds working. Selected games require memorization skills or the ability to spell which will keep clients' minds sharp and challenged. Board games also require the need for multiple players, which increases socialization among clients. Board games are appropriate and easy accessible for clients who have physical disabilities which limit their mobility. New and old board games can be alternated frequently, providing clients with traditional favorites mixed in with modern games that are new and exciting.
