Games for 5-Year-Old Boys

Kids of all ages love games, and naturally there are games that are appropriate for different age groups. When it comes to 5-year-old boys the games should be engaging and fun without needing too much coordination because children haven't yet developed accurate coordination skills at this age. The good news is that there are plenty of games that will keep them busy and entertained for awhile.

Physical Games
- Tag is a great game for all ages, but especially young kids because it doesn't require them to know or remember any rules. It also involves plenty of running, which is perfect for 5-year-old boys who have a lot of energy. The object of the game is for one boy to be "it," and tag someone else, who then becomes "it." A variation of this game is whoever gets tagged becomes part of the team and its members keep tagging as many people as possible to get on that team. The game is over once everyone is tagged. Another game is a balloon race, where the boys put a balloon between their knees and race to the finish line without dropping or popping it. An alternative is to give each boy a balloon to toss in the air. The object of the game is to keep all the balloons from hitting the floor, even other people's.
Scavenger Hunt
- A scavenger hunt is a great game for kids. However, keep in mind that when playing with 5-year-old boys, it's a good idea to hide items in obvious places they will think to look to avoid them getting too frustrated. Be sure to use toys that would be fun for a little boy to find such as a baseball, a matchbox car or an action figurine.
Online Games
- Many online games are geared toward boys, such as "Astronauts and Crosses." It's an online game of tic-tac-toe, with the exception of using the symbols as places to explore space. With the online "Tom and Jerry" game, the goal is to help Tom the cat build a trap for Jerry the mouse. There are also games for boys that include races between cartoon dogs, and car, bike and truck races, too. "Monster Trucks" also has great games for boys of all ages.
Balls
- A simple ball toss can keep 5-year-old boys occupied for many hours. Set up a laundry basket, or even a small trash can, and depending on its size, put it on the floor or a chair. Have the boys toss small, soft balls in the basket. They get a point for each basket they make. This will help them develop hand/eye coordination and good aim. Wiffle ball is another good game to introduce young boys to the basics of baseball, and the ball and bat are light enough for them to play with without getting hurt.
