"Musical Costume Chairs"
Add a twist to the traditional "Musical Chairs" game by placing small boxes of clothing or dress-up accessories next to each chair. Put the chairs evenly spaced apart in a circle, with one less chair than there are players. Play music and have the participants walk around the circle, then stop the music and have the players sit in the closest chair. Use a stopwatch, starting it each time the music stops. The players should have 60 seconds to dress in the clothing and/or accessories in the box next to the chair. The player that does not sit in a chair is out. In addition, any player that does not dress within the given time frame is also out. Remove a chair for each player that is out and continue the game until one player wins by being the last person in a chair and fully dressed in the boxed costume and/or accessories.
"Musical Hats"
Like a traditional "freeze" game, "Musical Hats" requires the participants to freeze in character when the music stops. Lay several hats that suggest different characters around the room. The room should have plenty of space for freedom of movement. In addition, you will need one less hat than you have participants. Play music on your stereo that has a fast beat and ask the participants to walk around the hats that lay on the floor to the beat of the music. Change the music periodically to make the pace of the game speed up or slow down. Stop the music abruptly and have everyone grab the first hat that they can reach and strike a pose, suggesting the character of the person that might wear the hat. The person playing that does not have a hat is out. Remove a hat from the floor each time another player is out. The last person posing in a hat is the winner.
"Musical Charades"
In "Musical Dress-up Charades," two people on a team are needed to start the game. One person draws out a slip of paper from a hat with a character's name on it. Once the paper is drawn, play music on your stereo. The player has until the song ends to get the other members of the team to guess the character. The catch is that the player drawing the paper must dress the other person in front of the group as the character named on the paper. Provide boxes of costume pieces and accessories for the players to use. Character ideas might include the Queen of England or a pirate. The team that guesses the most characters correctly wins.
"Musical Softball"
Got a stock of old Halloween costumes in the basement? Pull them out and play dress-up with "Musical Softball." You will need two teams and an outdoor field on which to play. Set bases out for your softball diamond, then place a box of costumes by each base, including home plate. One person must be in charge of the music, playing music with a variety of beats. Before the pitch the music "director" starts the music. The players can only move as fast as the beats of the music in all that they do. The batter, on the other hand, must hit the ball and then dress in a costume out of the box at home plate and run as fast as possible to first base. Once on first, the person controlling the music should change the song, as another batter comes up to bat. Once the ball is hit the player on first must then change out of the first costume and put on another costume from the box at first. The team with the most players crossing home plate after three innings wins.
