Surprise Birthday Games

It is always a thrill to attend surprise birthday parties. What makes surprise birthday parties more exciting is anticipating what will happen once the birthday honoree arrives. When she gets the surprise of her life, it is like unending chaos mixed with squeals and tears. But once the surprise itself is over, you cannot just let the excitement and commotion die. You have to follow it up with games that are just as exhilarating.
  1. Hop Dop

    • Hop Dop is a game wherein all the players are separated into two teams. The teams then sit at a table across each other. One of the groups is provided with a small coin which the team leader inconspicuously gives to one of his team members. Once the opposite team says "Hop," the coin must be displayed on the table. When the opposite team says "Dop," the coin is hidden beneath the table. The players then pass the coin from hand to hand until they hear "Hands on the table," which causes them all to place their hands on the table with their palms down. The head of the opposing group has to guess who is holding the coin. If the guess is correct, the coin is given to the other team and it starts all over again. If the opposing team's guess is incorrect, the other team maintains control of the coin and the captain of the team with the coin gives it to another member of his team.

    Who Am I?

    • Stick a name or a photo of something or someone on the back of every person at the birthday bash. Everyone starts asking other people "yes" or "no" questions about who or what they are. The first player to find out who or what he is becomes the champion.

    Truth or Lies

    • Each contestant writes her name on a piece of paper along with three things about herself -- two true facts and one lie. The next step is to pass the pieces of paper around unsystematically. Everyone gets a paper. The contestants attempt to infer which is the lie on the piece of paper that they're holding. The players whose lies have not been identified are the victors.

    Tied in Knots

    • Ask the players to position themselves in a circle facing each other. To start the game, everyone must extend his right hand into the circle and grabs hold of another contestant's hand. Then they are expected to do the same with their left hands. This will cause everyone to get into a "knot." The purpose of the game is to try to disentangle the "knot" by stooping under people, striding over them or turning around. It is up to the players to try to untangle themselves; however, no matter what happens, they cannot let go of their partners' hands.
