Disney Family Games

The Walt Disney company has been releasing entertainment aimed at families for decades. Chiefly, this output takes the form of movies, but Disney has also had a hand in developing some memorable games, which will suit most adults and kids. These games have appeared across a variety of formats, and often find family members competing against one another. In other games, families team up to achieve in-game success.
  1. Classic Family Games

    • Some Disney games are based on established family favorites. "Trivial Pursuit: Walt Disney Family Edition" is a version of the classic trivia game. Players race around the board, answering questions in a bid to collect six cheese pieces to win the game. Categories in this Disney-themed edition include World of Science, World of Fantasy and World of Music, with general trivia mixed in with the Disney questions. The "Disney Pictionary DVD Game" is a take on the game of quick drawing and guessing, with a DVD supplement included. This DVD features Disney-inspired animation and clips to help players with the clues.

    Singing Games

    • Some family games test players' vocal skills. "Disney Sing It: Family Hits" is a title for the Nintendo Wii, and one of several games in the "Disney: Sing It" karaoke series. The game contains 30 tracks, including numbers from movies such as "The Lion King," with players competing to earn top scores through their vocal deliveries. The "Mickey Mouse Game" revolves around players singing the famous cartoon mouse's name. Once the last letter is sung, participants rush to grab tokens, with the aim of being the first player to own all of the tokens needed to spell Mickey's name and be declared winner.

    Board Exploration

    • Some family titles are simply based around advancing over a game board. In "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Game," players race to become the first to travel through the magical land of Narnia and reach the lamppost to return home. Threats to players include the evil White Witch and menacing wolves. In the "Disney Magic Kingdom Game," players make their way around a board dotted with theme park attractions. At the game's beginning, each player is secretly assigned five attractions to visit, and the winner is the first person to reach all of these.

    Other Wii Games

    • The Nintendo Wii gaming system is home to other Disney family games. The "Princess and the Frog" title contains 25 mini-games, ranging from dress-up to decorating challenges, which are based around a rough storyline taken from the Disney movie of the same name. Players are rewarded for succeeding at the mini-games with improvements to the central character's restaurant. "Guilty Party" is a family-oriented mystery title, set in a house and starring a bunch of sleuth relatives who team up to piece together evidence and uncover the truth. Players move into each room during their turn and assemble clues and interrogate suspects, while avoiding traps set by the game's villainous characters.
