Icebreaker Games for Couples

Icebreaker games are a way for men and women to meet new people and strengthen current relationships, even romantic ones. When planning a social event or gathering for couples, create a few icebreaker games to get everyone mingling. With a few supplies, a creative imagination and some game ideas, you have everything you need to get the party started. Encourage the couples to play along by awarding small prizes to all game winners.
  1. Celebrity Couples

    • Write the names of people in celebrity couples on slips of paper, such as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Fred and Wilma Flintstone and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. As each couple arrives to the party, tape one-half of a celebrity couple to each one of their shirts. The couples must mingle with other couples asking yes or no questions about who they are. The couple who guess what celebrity couple they are first win the game. Keep playing until each couple figure out their celebrity couple names.

    Two Truths and a Lie

    • Give all the couples an index card and a pen. Have them write two truths and a lie about their relationship or lives. They can say things like, "We have been together for ____ years," "My husband does all the cooking" and "We have four dogs." After everyone finishes, have one couple read their card aloud to the group at a time. After they read their cards, have all the couples vote by a show of hands, which statement is a lie. This will reveal some interesting facts about the couples.

    The "No" Game

    • As each couple arrives to the party, give them a lei or strand of beads (one strand per couple). The couples must mingle with other couples and try to get them to say the word "no." They can ask yes or no questions or make a statement to try and get the other couple to say the word "no." If a couple says, "no," the couple that hears them can take their lei or beads. If a couple loses their lei or beads, they can still ask questions to other couples and try to win their beads. The couple with the most beads or leis at the end of the game wins a prize.

    Couple Questions

    • Gather all the women in one room and the men in another room. Give each person a sheet of paper and a pen. Ask the same questions to the men and the women. Have them write down answers to questions about their significant other like "Where did you two meet?" and "Where was your first kiss?" After everyone answers the questions have everyone join each other in the same room. Award one point for couples who answer a question the same. The couple with the most points at the end of the game wins a prize.
