Fun Games to Play Inside or Outside

Indoor and outdoor games are a source of entertainment for all ages. Adults and children can enjoy playing games at a family reunion, friendly gathering or any social event. With your imagination and a few supplies, you can create games that are suitable for everyone. Encourage everyone to play along by awarding prizes to the game winners.
  1. Relay Races

    • For an indoor relay race, use cotton balls and spoons. Divide the players into two teams and have them line up at a starting line. Give the first player in each team line a cotton ball and a spoon. Mark another line 15 feet from the starting line. Players must run to the other line and back to their team without dropping the cotton ball. If they drop the cotton ball, they must start over. Each player must do the same thing. The first team to finish the race wins the game. For an outdoor race, use eggs instead of cotton balls.

    Peanut Animal Game

    • Play the peanut animal game indoors or outdoors. Hide several shelled peanuts around the play area. Divide the players into four or five teams and select a captain for each team. Designate a certain animal, such as pig, cow, duck or horse, for each team. Give each team captain a plastic bag. When you say, "Go," all the players except the captains begin searching for peanuts. When a player finds a peanut, he must make his team animal noise. The team captain can then come and pick up the peanut. The team who find the most peanuts win the game.

    Sock Game

    • Place a large basket of socks in the middle of the room. Select two players to go first. Have the players take off their shoes and socks. When you say, "Race," they must start putting on as many socks as they can. After one minute, count the number of socks each player has on her feet. The player with the most socks wins the game. For an outdoor sock game, scatter and hide several individual socks around the play area. When you say "Race," all the players must run around and put on as many socks as they can. The player with the most socks at the end of the game wins.

    Balloon Volleyball

    • Divide the players into two teams to play indoor volleyball. Hang a string across a room and use a balloon as the volleyball. The first team to score 10 points wins the game. For an outdoor balloon volleyball game, use water balloons. Divide the players into two teams and give each team a large blanket. Teams must use the blanket to catch and toss the water balloons over the net. A team gains a point if the other team does not catch the water balloon on its blanket or the water balloon pops. The first team to score 15 points wins the game.
