Basketball Management Games

Basketball management games are in-depth games that focus on all facets of running a franchise. They are text-based PC games that offer a more cerebral challenge than many console games. These games appeal to gamers who seek an alternative to the button mashing and joystick manipulation of many Xbox 360 and PlayStation basketball games.
  1. "Draft Day Sports: Pro Basketball 2"

    • "Draft Day Sports: Pro Basketball 2" is a management game for PC that allows the gamer to act as the general manager or coach of a professional basketball franchise through multiple seasons. The gamer can choose to control one of 30 NBA teams or 72 European clubs. The game advances in stages -- organizational hiring, scouting, player draft, free agency, summer league and training camp -- and the gamer must manage all aspects of the organization. Features include restricted free agency, progressive injury healing, a simplified financial model and the ability to expand the league.

    "BuzzerBeater"

    • In the online game "BuzzerBeater," gamers start with a group of lesser-talented players -- each with a unique set of skills and abilities. Players can improve their team by buying, selling, drafting and training players. Additionally, players must serve as the GM, making decisions such as when to expand the team's arena or how high to set ticket prices. Gamers compete in a league with 15 other subscribers. Players choose starters and backups for each game and the team's offensive and defensive strategy to determine the outcome of the game. The best teams are promoted to tougher leagues at the end of each season. The goal is to lead your team to the top of the toughest division.

    "World Basketball Manager"

    • "World Basketball Manager" for PC is an international basketball management game that uses the same game play principles of soccer management games. In "WBM," the gamer acts as the general manager of a basketball organization who must improve the team's performance. The gamer controls various aspects of the organization such as youth academy, contracts, trades and game decisions such as lineups and team strategy. Feedback is received from the press, administration, players and fans throughout the season. A scoring system ranks the gamer among other managers around the world.

    "Total Pro Basketball"

    • "Total Pro Basketball" for PC tests your ability to manage a basketball team both on and off the court. The gamer assumes the role of general manager and attempts to guide a team through multiple championship seasons. The general manager is responsible for organizational moves such as making roster decisions and maintaining the salary cap. The gamer also can act as coach and get involved in setting starting lineups and offensive and defensive play calling during the game.
