Fun Pilgrim Games

Celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with fun pilgrim games. Whether you are planning pilgrim games for your students in the classroom or for your family at home, you can create a few games using a couple of inexpensive supplies and your imagination. Pilgrim games will keep everyone entertained.
  1. Ring Catch

    • According to Education.com, this game was popular with pilgrim kids and Native Americans on the eastern seaboard. Use a wood dowel that is about 1/2 inch to 1/2 inch in diameter and about 12 inches long. Tie a ring that is about 2 inches to 3 inches in diameter to a piece of string or twine that is about 14 inches long. Tie the ring to the end of the wood dowel using the twine. Players must try to catch the ring on the end of the stick by flicking the ring in the air.

    Pilgrim Dress-Up Relay

    • Divide the players into two teams and have them line up at a starting line. Mark another line about 20 feet from the starting line and place two pilgrim outfits at the line. Pilgrim outfits are available online and at some costume stores, and contain a shirt, hat and pants. When you say, "Race," the first player in each team line must race to the pilgrim clothes and put them on. They must race back and hand the clothes off to the next person in line who must do the same thing (race to the other line and back to hand off the clothes). The first team to finish the relay race wins the game.

    Hoop Game

    • Pilgrims would play this game with wagon wheels rims; however, you can play it with hula hoops. Use a wood dowel that is about 20 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. Mark a starting line and a finish line about 30 feet apart. Give each player a wood dowel and a hula hoop. Have the players stand the hoops upright and place the wood dowel through the inside of the hoop. Players will race to the finish line using the wood dowel to roll the hoop. Players cannot use their hands to roll the hoops. The first player across the finish line wins the game.

    Pilgrim Hats

    • Make pilgrim-shaped hats out of black construction paper (one less hat than you have players) and scatter them all over the floor. Play music and tell the players to walk around the hats. When the music stops playing, each player must grab a pilgrim hat. The player left without a hat is out of the game. Remove one hat and keep playing. The last player standing wins the pilgrim hat game.
