How to Curve the Cue Ball

Curving the cue ball is a technique used in a game of billiards---it is also referred to as a masse shot. Curved shots are useful when trying to avoid hitting certain balls to reach a different ball on the table. Masse shots are quite difficult to master and they involve hitting the ball at a downwards angle --- many pool halls do not like this type of shot because when the player misses, he is likely to damage the felt on the table.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold your pool cue to an angle of 30 or 45 degrees from the surface of the table, with the tip of the cue pointing at the back of the ball.

    • 2

Curve the ball in an arc to the right by hitting the ball in the center, on the right-hand side of the ball. This is called "Extreme Right English."

    • 3

Curve the ball to the left by hitting the ball in the center, on the left hand-side of the ball. This is called "Extreme Left English."

    • 4

Increase the elevation of your stick to increase the depth of your curve.
