Hoola Balula
Girls know about hula hoops typically by the time they are three or four years old. Set the girls up with a hoola balula problem to solve. Have the girls stand in a large circle and place a hula hoop onto the arm of one of the girls. Then, ask all of the girls to hold hands. The trick is for the girls to find a creative way to pass the hula hoop from one girl to the next until it has gone all the way around the circle and the girls have not stopped holding hands.
Hot Foot
Hot foot is very similar to the traditional hot potato game that has participants tossing a pretend hot potato-a ball-as fast as they can to another player. The hot foot potato game is also played with a small ball that is the hot potato. The ball is placed in the middle of a circle of girls and one girl is chosen to stand in the middle and to be it. Her job is to kick the hot potato out of the circle. The other girls, forming the circle, use their feet to keep the hot potato inside the circle. If the hot potato gets outside of the circle, another girl becomes it and the game continues.
Water Balloon Fun
To play this game, fill 30 water balloons of two different colors. In an outdoor area, place two large pails about 20 feet apart. Fill one of the pails with the 30 water balloons. Divide the girls into two teams and assign each team a color. The gist of the game is to see which team gets the most unbroken water balloons into the empty pail within a certain amount of time. Blow a whistle to start the game. At the whistle, a girl from each team picks up a water balloon with her mouth and starts moving toward the empty pail. As soon as the first girl on each team picks up her balloon and moves away from the pail, the next girl does the same thing until all balloons are on their way to the empty pail.
Barge In
The "Barge In" game is a good activity to do around a campfire or on a deck or patio. To begin the game, ask two girls to decide on a theme for a pretend play or dialogue they are to act out. Tell them to use lots of exaggeration in their gestures and to put drama into their voice and facial expressions. When they get going, the other girls can choose to "Barge In" and take over the role of one of the girls by tapping her on the shoulder. The girl who was tapped leaves the play and the new girl takes on the role of the girl she tapped. Continue to have girls barge in until all have had a chance to be an actress.
