Around Town
Scavenger hunts involve teams that are given a list of items to find. The first team to find the all the items on the list wins the game. If you have a neighborhood scavenger hunt, pick items that everyone will know, such as the town newspaper, a library card, a business card, a pizza coupon, a piece of junk mail and local menus. You can add miscellaneous items to the list and also have people use cameras to take pictures of things around town.
Holiday Hunt
Scavenger hunts are an entertaining activity to do around holidays, such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween. For a Christmas hunt some items to include are an ornament, a Christmas stocking, candy canes, mistletoe, garland, wrapping paper and a nutcracker. If you have a Halloween hunt you can hide items like pumpkins, fake eyes, miniature skeletons, candy, a witch's hat and vampire teeth. People have had Easter egg hunts for years, and in addition to eggs you can add other items like a basket, Easter candy, a stuffed bunny and carrots.
Picnic
Scavenger hunts are a great activity for a picnic because everyone can be involved. The items can be virtually anything, including household items or junk from the garage. Hide items like a paper plate; a screwdriver; a fork, knife and spoon; a sock; a tennis ball; a candle; a light bulb; a paper towel roll; a bungee cord; a hammer; or a banana. You can also add "bonus" items that are more difficult to find like a marble or a stick of gum.
Sports Theme
If you choose a definitive theme like sports, it makes it easy to choose items. You can use any sport for the list of items to hide. For example, you can hide different types of balls, such as a baseball, tennis ball, football, soccer ball, lacrosse ball, ping pong ball or golf ball. Other items would be a running shoe, a football helmet, a golf club, a baseball card, an ankle brace, a tennis racket, a hockey puck, a mouth guard or a wrist band. Anything that has to do with sports can be added to your scavenger hunt list.
