Games to Play With Eggs

When the kids refuse to play one more game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey or musical chairs or to participate in yet another foot race, bring out a carton of eggs. You can play a variety of games using raw, hard-boiled or plastic eggs at birthday parties, Easter celebrations, sleepovers, field days or family reunions.
  1. Easter Egg Hunt

    • Keep the kids entertained with an Easter egg hunt. Use colored hard-boiled eggs, colored egg shells or plastic eggs filled with prizes such as candy, money or small toys. Hide the eggs outside if the weather permits; otherwise hide them inside. Give each child a basket, then let them loose to hunt for the eggs. To make the game more fair, assign each kid an egg color. One child is only allowed to collect the blue eggs she finds, while another child can only collect purple eggs. If you use hard-boiled eggs, make sure you remember where you hide all the eggs. Unfound hard-boiled eggs will rot and smell.

    Egg Toss

    • The egg toss game can get messy, so only play it outside. Divide the kids into pairs. Position each pair so they are facing each other, standing about 3 feet apart. Give each team one raw egg. One team member tosses the egg to his partner. If the partner misses, drops or in any other way breaks the egg, that team loses. The teams that didn't break the egg each take another step apart, then toss the egg again. After each toss, the winning teams take one step back until only one team is left with an unbroken egg.

    Egg Relay Race

    • Put those plastic Easter eggs to use all year long by holding egg relay races. Divide the kids into two teams, and divide the plastic eggs evenly between the two teams. The first player on each team must run through an obstacle course with an armful of eggs. If the player drops an egg, he must stop to pick it up. When the player gets back to the start line, he passes all the eggs to a teammate. The first team in which all players successfully run the obstacle course wins. Base the number of eggs each team gets on the age of the participants; younger children can carry fewer eggs than older children can.

    Egg in Spoon Race

    • The egg in spoon race involves raw eggs, so only play this game outside. Line the children up at the start line, and give each child a spoon with a raw egg in it. Each child must run as fast as she can to the finish line while balancing the egg in the spoon. She can hold only the handle of the spoon. If the egg drops and breaks, the child must go back to the start line, get another egg from an adult and start over again. The first child to reach the finish line with an unbroken egg wins.
