Games for Winter

The winter months bring less outdoor play and more time logged inside behind closed doors. Keep everyone busy with activities and planned events during the winter season. Whether playing alone, with a group or on the computer, there are many options available when planning games for the winter months.
  1. Online Games

    • Many websites are available online offering free games. Websites, such as Miniclip.com and Addicting Games.com, have a variety of sports games, such as golf or billiards. Puzzle and adventure games are also available online that are geared toward entertainment as well as education. If players are of preschool age, websites like PBSkids.org and Sesame Street.org are suitable options when staying indoors on a chilly day.

    Outdoor Activities

    • Disney's Family Fun website recommends the game "hat trick," which can be played if you've built a snowman. Using a hat, toss it frisbee-style at his head. The winner is the first person to land the hat on the snowman's head. "Get on a roll" is played by rolling the largest snowball possible. The game is over when there is no more snow available or if players can no longer roll their snowballs.

    Board Games

    • Gathering the family or a group of friends for a night of cards or board games is another idea when playing games in winter. Games like "Trivial Pursuit" and "Scrabble" are entertaining and educational. Card games, such as "Uno", "Go Fish" or "Old Maid" are available for purchase at most drugstores and toy stores.

    Group Activities

    • Organizing a group for an outdoor activity like "tag" or "touch football" will keep everyone entertained and active on a winter day. The game "flag in a snow stack" is best played if the ground is snow-covered. Tie a white cloth to a stick and have a player hide it somewhere in the paying area. The teams attempt to find the flag as fast as possible. The team who finds it first is the winner.
