Free Games for Girls 7 to 12

Seven- to12-year-old girls greatly enjoy playing games at parties and sleepovers. The most entertaining games are usually free or inexpensive, such as cards, scavenger hunts and variations on traditional games such as Hide and Seek. Girls this age also enjoy playing individual games like problem solving or dress-up, depending on their personality.
  1. Individual Games: Online

    • A variety of online games appropriate for this age level are available. Some online games are geared toward education, and users can choose a difficulty level according to grade level. These games focus on vocabulary, typing skills, math, memory and speed. Other online games for this age group are dress-up, make-up, or hairstyle games. Playing the dress-up games is like playing with a virtual Barbie or Bratz doll.

    Individual Games: Offline

    • Games are a great way to cheer up a lonely preteen stuck inside on a rainy day. Even by themselves, these games are entertaining and challenging. Sudoku and age-appropriate crossword puzzles, along with mazes and other mind-teasers are fun and educational. They can be downloaded and printed for free from the Internet.

Group Games: Cards and Board Games

    • Card games and board games are great for preteens. If you are throwing a sleepover or party but do not have cards or board games, ask the local library if they have them available for rent. You can also ask the girls to bring a board game, so you do not have to buy one. Popular board games for this age group are Life, Monopoly, Cranium and Trouble.

    Group Games: Sardines

    • Sardines is the opposite of Hide and Seek in that one girl hides while the rest of the girls try to find her. When a girl finds the hiding spot, she must join the other girl in hiding. Each additional girl squeezes into the hiding spot as she finds it until all of them except one are packed into the tiny hiding place like sardines. The last girl to find the hiding spot is the first one to hide next round.

    Group Games: Scavenger Hunt

    • Scavenger hunts are one of the best games to play at parties. There are several variations on the scavenger hunt, many of which are free and extremely simple to set up. First, divide the party into two or more teams and give each team a list of items to find. For example, if you are in a house you could make a list that includes various household items such as a pencil, a rubber band, an oven mitt, a key, a penny and a tube of lipstick. The first group to find all of the items wins a prize.
