Fun Islamic Games

Games can help people master and review information without it seeming like a lesson. As people of many faiths and traditions become curious about Islam, games can be included in a workshop or curriculum unit on Islam to add variety and limit inattention. For Muslims, Islamic games offer a way to reinforce knowledge of worship, theology and history.
  1. Board Games

    • Islamic board games test your knowledge of the Quran, ahdith and fiqh, and some are memory games that include Islamic terms. Goodword, a company that offers Islamic board games, books, and audio and video recordings, has several games to help children learn about the Quran, prayer, the pilgrimage to Mecca and mosque architecture. Goodword offers games in English, Danish, Arabic and Malay. Kalimaat, a game produced by Baba Ali Games, tests your ability to interpret clues offered by a teammate and your memory. It is a word-guessing game including Islamic terms and ordinary words.

    Online Games

    • Websites designed for Muslim families sometimes have games for children. These include games to help children learn Arabic alphabet and vocabulary, and word scramble and memory games involving Islamic terms and objects. Islamic Playground offers Arabic alphabet games and an Islamic quiz game. Play and Learn provides activities, games and puzzles based on Shi'a teachings. Islamic Arabic offers games to teach the Arabic alphabet and the geography and culture of Muslim-majority countries. The site is written in Turkish and English. Domain of Islam offers games to teach Arabic vocabulary, Quran and traditional Islamic supplications.

    Computer Games

    • Islamic computer games may consist of traditional arcade games with Muslim characters, be designed to teach Islamic concepts, or both. The Fine Media Group offers a game based on its film "The Fables of Bah Ya Bah." The Bah Ya Bah Activity Center features characters from the tales, and reinforces the morals taught in the film. Knowledge Builder, a Soundvision game, is a quiz game with over 1,500 questions about the Quran, the life of the Prophet Muhammad and the geography and history of Muslim-majority countries. Abu Saleh is a Soundvision arcade-style game. The player must get past obstacles and enemies to worship and learn more about Islam to proceed through the levels.

    Adapting Games to Teach Islam

    • Teachers in Islamic weekend and full-time schools also adapt non-Islamic games to teach Islamic vocabulary and concepts. This adds an educational element to games their classes may be familiar with, or helps them customize a game for a concept or curriculum unit they may be teaching. Muslim groups at parties may also include Islamic terms and concepts in parlor games, such as Charades or Twenty Questions.
