Fun Police Games

Some games feature criminals, renegades or even Mafia masterminds, but others focus on the good guys: the cops. While the police may not be as popular as more nefarious characters when it comes to games, developers have still come up with several titles featuring cops that are fun to play. These are available across a range of video game systems, but also include board games.
  1. Board Games

    • These games are usually multiplayer. "Polizei Alarm" is suitable for two to four players, with one team taking on the role of the cops, while the other controls a bunch of robbers. The police team spends the game riding around the board in a car, hunting down the thieves. The robbers, meanwhile, are trying to steal money from a safe and must throw dice in the hope of rolling the right combination to break the safe open, before being caught. In "Scotland Yard," one player controls Mr. X and must avoid the attention of the other players, who take the role of detectives, by moving around London. The detectives must try to catch Mr. X by working out his location.

    PC Games

    • PC games are typically quite complex. In "Urban Chaos," the player steps into the shoes of a cop, D'arci Stern, in a third-person adventure, a more modern take on the classic side-scrolling fighting games found in amusement arcades. Stern is out to clean up the streets of Union City, and much of the gameplay is concerned with the player's quest to explore this metropolis, tackling gang members and foiling a cult's plot for dominance. "Police Quest: SWAT" aims to provide a realistic cop experience for players and features training missions and assignments. Former L.A. police Chief Daryl Gates supervised the game to help developers re-create a SWAT team member's life.

    Arcade Games

    • These games are found in amusement arcades. "Police Trainer" is a first-person shooter, with a twist in that players don't take on actual enemies but dummies instead. Players tackle a range of police-related challenges, such as defusing bombs and marksmanship tests against a time limit. "Police 911" makes use of a light gun to allow players to blast away at targets, as well as a specially designed pedal to allow players to control precisely the movements of their on-screen character. The plot of the game involves a rookie cop's attempts to bring down criminals in Japan.

    Console Games

    • Police games have appeared across various gaming consoles. Based on the movie, "Beverly Hills Cop" for video game consoles such as PlayStation 2 features six missions, in which players control Axel Foley and take on crime. Weapons available include submachine guns, and players can talk their way out of trouble, too. In "True Crime: Streets of LA," the player controls Nick Kang, a detective. The game is action-packed and features a huge playing area, with players able to roam L.A.'s streets to take down criminals.
