How to Calculate the K/D Ratio

A ratio is simply any number compared to another. All fractions are ratios. In most first person shooter games, success is measured by how many opponents your character has killed compared to how many times your character has died. This ratio is known as the kill/death or "K/D" ratio, and it is one of the most common measures of your skill in the game.

    • 1
Your kills should be higher than your deaths for a good K/D ratio.

With the game of interest started, look at your player's "Stats." The "Stats" are often in the "Extras" menu. Locate this area of the game and record your "Kills" and your "Deaths".

    • 2

Divide the kills by the deaths to get the K/D ratio. If you have 2,015 kill and 1,026 deaths, your K/D ratio would be 2,015/1,026 = 1.96.

    • 3

Interpret the K/D ratio. In this example, about 2 people are killed for every life that you spend in the game. The more opponents you have killed overall, the better. Conversely, the fewer lives you have used to accomplish these kills demonstrates how much of an expert you are. Thus, a high kill death ratio is desirable. If you were playing "Marked for Death 4," that would be a fair to good K/D ratio.
