Spelling Activities With Sea Adventure Games

Learning to spell can be a tedious task for young children, but if the spelling involves interactive game play, it can come naturally for the child. A sea theme will teach children regular words along with a collection of sea-themed words such as "shark," "water" and "octopus." Play these spelling games on the computer, through a printout or on a handheld console like the Nintendo DS.
  1. Nintendo DS Games

    • Use the DS stylus to point at letters and learn words in "Freddie the Fish: ABC Under the Sea." In the game, players travel with Freddie, visiting other creatures in the sea and playing games as they explore. The game is ideal for preschool and kindergarten students, with different difficulty settings that the parents can set. Along with spelling, play math or matching and color activities.

    Fun School Games

    • The Kaboose website Fun School features a large collection of games catered to multiple grades. The "Under the Sea" section of the site is divided into multiple sections, including spelling. Play arcade games where you use sea animals to choose the right word or play a sea-themed word search puzzle. The website constantly adds new games and activities appropriate for multiple grade levels.

    Online Puzzle Games

    • Dive deep into the sea to play the online "Sea Word" game at Great Day Games. Gold coins float up on the screen with random letters in them. Click on letters to spell words and clear the coins from the screen. As you move through each level, bonus games will open up and give you adventure missions for extra points. Pogo's website features the word game "Crossword Cove." Spell the words and solve the clues with many ocean themes. Choose from three different ocean backgrounds and solve the puzzle as quickly as possible to win.

    Printable Games

    • Print out games for children to work on at home. Printable games can include word matching, ocean Bingo or the "Under the Sea Word Scramble" from Printables 4 Kids. The printout sheet features pictures of various sea creatures and scrambled words that children have to solve. This activity is best for third- and fourth-grade students. Print out as many copies as your need and children can color the animals once the words are unscrambled.
